Odormute Concentrate - Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
|
|
WHAT IS ODORMUTE?
Odormute is a blend of natural enzymes that will eliminate any organic odor. The action of Odormute chemically changes the source of the odor and eliminates it. It does not simply mask the odor.
Odormute is safe to use on any surface - concrete to carpets - yet is so strong, it even works on skunk odor on pets. Odormute has been sold with a money back guarantee for over 30 years. Odormute will not harm people, pets or plant life.
Important: Odormute works by chemically changing the source of the odor. The Odormute solution MUST come in direct contact with the source of the odor in order to eliminate it. If other chemicals or cleaning agents have been used, they may have "set" the odor permanently.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ODORMUTE AND ODORMUTE CONCENTRATE?
Odormute Concentrate is simply a concentrated formulation of Odormute. Odormute Concentrate is approximately three times stronger than Odormute. Odormute Concentrate can be used in any recipe shown below, just use one-third as less! For example, the basic deordorizing solution calls for 1 tablespoon of Odormute to one gallon of water. With Odormute Concentrate, use 1 teaspoon to one gallon of water.
For larger applications, it is more economical to purchase Odormute Concentrate since it will go three times as far.

WHAT IS THE BASIC RECIPE FOR USING ODORMUTE?
Important: wear rubber gloves while using liquid solution. Prolonged contact with Odormute will remove dead skin cells on your hands and may cause redness and irritation. Wash with soap and cold water if this occurs.
Mix at a ratio of 1 tablespoon to one gallon of warm water. 1 tablespoon of Odormute equals approximately 1 ounce.
1. Mix Odormute with warm water until completely dissolved. For best results, dissolve Odormute in a pint of warm water. Allow 5 — 10 minutes, mixing occasionally, to make sure all powder is dissolved. Then, add this solution to the rest of the water.
2. Enzymes are activated by adding warm water. Once activated, enzymes must be used within 4 hours for best results.
3. Water temperature must be between 45 degrees F to 140 degrees F, with the optimum temperature between 70 degrees F and 90 degrees F. Freezing will not harm enzymes, however, temperatures above 140 degrees F will destroy them.

HOW DO I TREAT SKUNK ODORS?
This is the most difficult odor to eliminate and may require repeat application.
Note: we recommend increasing the strength of the solution to a ratio of 1 tablespoon to 1quart of warm water. The strength of the Odormute solution can be increased with no harm to you or your pets.
Skunk Odor on Clothing and Fabrics See "Fabric and Clothing". Follow the directions in this section using a solution of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water.
Skunk Odor on Pets Start with a completely dissolved solution in the ratio of 1 tablespoon Odormute to 1 quart warm water. Completely drench the animal taking extra precautions around sensitive areas, such as the ears, eyes, nose and mouth. Let the solution soak for several minutes then thoroughly rinse your pet. It may be necessary to repeat the application or increase the strength of the solution. After the final treatment, wash your pet with any good quality pet shampoo to remove all traces of the Odormute solution.
As with any chemical-based products (including shampoos, ointments or deordorizers) there is always the possibility that your pet may have a reaction or develop a skin irritation to its use. If in doubt, test a spot on your pet such as the belly or under the chin. If a rash or skin irritation occurs, then discontinue use of the product.
Walls, Floors and Other Surfaces Exposed to Skunk Odor Mix Odormute solution at a ratio of I tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water. Use a hand-held sprayer (or a larger Lawn and Garden Sprayer depending on the surface area to be treated). Spray any surface that may have been exposed to the odor through direct contact or air-borne odor. The solution may be sprayed on draperies if the contact was not direct, but airborne. On some surfaces such as wood paneling, a slight residue may be left after drying. This can be removed with a damp cloth.

HOW DO I TREAT CARPETS AND RUGS?
Note: the material and quality of carpets and pads vary greatly. Always test a small area before treating the total carpet. Hueter Toledo, Inc. will not be responsible for more than the replacement cost of the Odormute product.
Odormute is not recommended for Oriental rugs.
Spots and Small Areas 1. Test a small area before use. Soak and let dry. 2. In large carpeted areas, all odor sources must be located and treated. 3. Dissolve 1 tablespoon in 1 quart of warm water. (Increasing the amount of Odormute will speed the action with no harm to people, pets or fabric). 4. Soak the carpet and pad in the spots in need of treatment. 5. Allow to soak for 1 hour. 6. Remove all excess moisture and allow the carpet to dry. Failure to do so may produce mildew or ammonia odors. Suggestion: you may use towels, a hair dryer or fan to speed drying.
Entire Carpets 1. Test a small area before use. Soak and let dry. 1. Test a small area before use. Soak and let dry. 2. You may use a carpet cleaning machine. Substitute Odormute solution for the carpet cleaning chemicals. 3. Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon Odormute to 1 gallon of warm water. Mix the amount of Odormute needed with 1 pint of warm water until completely dissolved (about 5-10 minutes). Add the solution to the carpet cleaning machine. 4. After the carpet has dried and the odor has been eliminated, you may shampoo the carpet as usual. IMPORTANT: After soaking a carpet with Odormute solution, the area must be thoroughly dried! Failure to do so may produce a mildew or ammonia odor. If this occurs, you may retreat the carpet with Odormute solution, adding 4 tablespoons of Baking Soda to the machine. The baking soda neutralizes the urine acid and has natural deodorizing properties. Small areas may be dried with a hair dryer or electric fan. In larger areas, the carpet and pad should be lifted and thoroughly dried. Special care should be taken with shag or heavy carpets with porous pads.
